About Us
Mule screens are a product of Steel Systems Installations, who has been in business for over 35 years designing and building custom processing plants and material handling facilities. Throughout the years of designing and installing heavy industrial aggregate processing systems, SSI realized certain applications needed a vibratory machine that was simpler, easier to maintain, and less cost intensive to install than what was already on the market. This gave birth to the Mule Screen.
Weird Fact: Steel Systems is based in Quarryville, Pennsylvania, in southern Lancaster County – a place where mules roam the land.
The Mule screen is a vibratory machine that utilizes greased for life vibratory motors in lieu of an oil-bath eccentric mechanism or geared exciters. This technology eliminates periodic oil changes, mechanically intensive screen bearing changes, and V-belt drive assemblies with their associated guarding and maintenance.
While other products on the market have used vibratory motors on aggregate screens, the original Mule screen differs in that three motors are utilized to provide an elliptical motion instead of a linear motion. This gives the machine the capability to efficiently convey material while reducing pegging due to the uplift in the corner of the ellipse. We also offer custom screens that utilize vibratory motors for circular or linear motion.
Our application of vibratory motor technology is combined with an extremely rigid design which can be packaged with a structural support that is much less cost and maintenance intensive than a conventional eccentric shaft machine.
All of the fabrication for the Mule screen is performed by our skilled laborers in southern Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Our in-house team of engineers can design a vast array of machine sizes specific to the required applications. Fabricated components are kept in stock as required to support our Mule screens. We keep spares for each size of vibratory motors that we use, and our supplier also stocks these motors for immediate availability. This gives us the flexibility to lessen machinery lead-time or down-time, back up our products, and create fresh innovations for vibratory machinery in the aggregate market.
